Admission Requirements

Special A Type Elementary, middle and high school teachers who are currently teaching
Special B Type
  • 1) English language proficiency test scores above
    * TOEIC 850, TOEIC Speaking 150 
  • * OPIC IM3
    * TOEFL(IBT 92)
    * IELTS 7.0(IELTS General and IELTS Academic Both)
    * TEPS 790
    * New TEPS 435
    or an equivalent certified. An English test score is required.
  • 2) BA or MA degree from English speaking country.

Test Type & Sample Questions

Writing Test
Test Type There will be 1 question and students will have 30 minutes to write a 3 paragraph answer to the question. (Hand Writing)
Time 30 minutes
Task Example “Please do the following writing task in 3 paragraphs for 30 minutes: You are invited to one of your best friend's wedding but are unable to attend it because of a business trip. Write her an email to apologize and explain your situation.”
Evaluations ※ The answer will be read by 2 assesors from you faculty, and will be scored 50% on appropriate form and content, and 50% on appropriate language (grammar, vocab, sentence complexity, etc.)
English Interview
Test Type Applicants talk about a problem in groups of three while two YL instructors observe. The interview takes 15 minutes as follows:
 
  • 1) 3 minutes : 1 minute for each participant to briefly introduce her/himself
  • 2) 1 minute : You will be given a discussion card about one issue related to teaching or learning English in Korea. (The topic is given during the interview so that your conversation is spontaneous and not prepared ahead of time.)
  • 3) 9 minutes : Group discussion (about the topic given above)
  • 4) 2 minutes : Applicants can ask instructors about Sookmyung TESOL
Time 15 - 20 minutes
Task Example A co-worker is having problems with students coming to class late. Based on your experience as students and/or teachers, brainstorm several solutions to this problem, and discuss their advantages and disadvantages and tell the colleagues your preferred order.
Evaluation ※ Evaluation is based on applicants abilities of stating their own opinion and interacting with other applicants.
