SMU-TESOL is an intensive, short-term program coveringwith 5 months of academic education.

04Evaluation
Applicants are evaluated based on the following criteria : following criteria:
- - Required application documents, writing test
- - short timed-writing sample,
- - and the interview
05Required Documents for Application
06Registration
Aspiring applicants SMU-TESOL must register within the registration period.
07Term of Class
- - One session of SMU-TESOL certificate program continues for five months.
- - The spring semester runs from early February through mid-June.
- - The fall semester runs from early August through mid-December.
08Curriculum
09Registering for classes
Students must take all of the required courses. Students do not need to submit a course registration form to register for individual classes.
10Class schedule and Attendance
Each professor will provide a syllabus highlighting important dates and assignments on the first day of class. Professors will also review SMU-TESOLs policy on attendance at that time.
11Missed classes and supplementary class
When a class has been canceled, the professor must give a supplementary class during the semester.
12Changes in Class groups
Class group change is only possible when the student is not able to attend the originally assigned class group. In order to change their class group, the student needs to fill out a requested form with the confirmation of each professor whose class the student takes. Then the student needs to hand the form in to the TESOL Office. The student cannot move to a class group that is already closed.
13Certification of qualification & completion
Those who successfully completed the program with all the required credits will receive a Certification of Qualification (GPA 2.7 and above); those who do not maintain a 2.7 GPA will receive the Certification of Completion which requires that students have attended 2/3 of all classes and have not failed any courses. A student will not receive a certificate if she or he has failed any of the courses.
14Manner of Evaluation
Professors of individual courses will review the course assessment at the beginning of the course. Evaluations will include written midterms and final projectsexams, as well as student microteaching presentations and other group and individual assignments.

16Dishonesty on tests
SMU-TESOL treats plagiarism and cheating as serious offenses.
Those suspected of plagiarizing or cheating will receive one opportunity to make up the assignment with a maximum grade of B. The second offense will result in a failing grade
17Temporary Leaves
Because SMU-TESOL is a short-term program, temporary leaves will not be approved and may significantly affect a student’s final grade.
18Tuition Refundment
Once the tuition is paid, it cannot be refunded unless the student turns in an admission disclaimer and the president of the Univ. consents to it.

19Documents Needed for Dropping
- 1) A copy of your bank account (the first page of your bank book)
- 2) The receipt of your tuition payment
- 3) Contact administration professor TESOL office and get the requested forms.
20Transfer of credit
When applying for the YL-TESOL at TESOL at Sookmyung Women's University credits from PL-TESOL will be counted.
21Transfer of credits to universities abroad
SMU-TESOL credits may only be transferred to universities that are in cooperation with the SMU-TESOL program. Check with the SMU-TESOL staff for a list of cooperating universities.
22Studying abroad
Students who wish to study abroad may receive counseling from an expert and recommendations from foreign professors.

23Achievement Awards
Graduating students with letter grades above an A- in each subject and a grade point average above a 4.0 will be given achievement Award.
24Merit Awards
Graduating students who set a good example to others and contribute to the development of SMU-TESOL will be given a Merit Award.
25Disciplinary Punishment
In case an SMU-TESOL student violates the student code of conduct, disciplinary measure may be taken, including the possibility of expulsion.
26TOTE - Online English Lecture Proficiency Certification System
A.Certification Criteria: Those who meet all three of the following
1) A person who has obtained a certificate of SMU-TESOL certificate and who has completed the required courses in 'Methodology I, II' and above B+.
2) Participants in the workshop on 'Understanding and Utilizing Lecture-Based Systems with Web 3.0
3) A person who has completed the assignment of 'Online Teaching Endorsement(OTE)'
